Instagram have recently announced that reach will now be pretty much the same for still images as well as Reels despite them really pushing the latter for a while.
However, this doesn’t mean that we have to abandon Reels altogether. They can be fun and honestly, I think it’s best to use as many facilities of the app that you can in order to create a well-rounded account.
One thing we can do when creating Reels to help boost their reach (especially now that they are competing more with still images) is to identify and use trending audio.
What is trending audio?
This refers to the audio in the app that you can use for your Reels that is popular and frequently used. The audio’s gained popularity in theory should help push reach when used.
How can you identify trending audio?
There are a couple of ways to do this:
- Go into the app and click on the Reels icon at the bottom of the screen, watch a few Reels and save audio that you like or think will be relevant to your content. Trending audio can be identified as having an upwards arrow next to it.
- Go into the app and create a new Reel, click on audio to see the audio options. Any audio that is trending will have an upwards arrow next to it. You can listen to a short snippet of the audio by clicking on the circle with the play icon in it.
NB audio that isn’t music, so can be useful for lipsyncing to is usually in the Original audio section.
Then you can create your Reel from scratch or use a template if there is one available for that piece of audio.
