I’m pretty sure you’ll see a lot of Happy Easter posts on social media over the Easter weekend weekend, which is great as it’s seasonal, current and will probably get some engagement going. 

However, it’s worth remembering that you do need to be careful with the hashtags that you use on these posts, especially on Instagram.

Why? Well, were you aware that #easter has been on the banned hashtag list on Instagram? 

And using banned hashtags could result in posts not being seen, accounts being shadowbanned, reduced engagement or even accounts being removed completely. 

So it’s definitely worth keeping up to date on which hashtags are on the banned list in 2022.

You might then be asking yourself, which #hashtags will work for me?

Well, it depends. You will need to do a bit of research and a bit of testing to find out which hashtags will work for you and your business.

But as a general guide you can use hashtags that relate to:

💡 the individual post or image

💡 your business or industry

💡 your audience and what they will be searching

It’s important to remember that hashtags should be included as part of your strategy, however they should not be relied on as the main way to attract followers or engagement.

Do your research

It’s worth spending some time looking at what hashtags your competitors and target audience are using, and create a few hashtag groups to use and see how well they perform.

Keep them accessible

When you’ve decided on suitable hashtags, I recommend keeping them somewhere safe. Either in a Google Sheet (I have a separate tab for hashtags), or on a Trello board, or some scheduling tools will allow you to save your hashtags so that you don’t have to keep flicking back and forth from application to application.

TIP: save your hashtags on your Notes app on your phone too in case you upload posts direct from there.
